How the Dubai gold rate is calculated
The dirham is pegged to the US dollar at a fixed 3.6725 AED/USD (set by the Central Bank of the UAE, unchanged since 1997). Because of this peg, the Dubai gold rate follows the international spot price directly:
AED per gram = spot USD/oz × 3.6725 ÷ 31.1035 × karat purity
That is why gold costs essentially the same in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah — the only retail difference is the making charge each shop adds on top of the metal rate.
